UMA Greenmetric Team Attends UI Greenmetric Workshop
The University of Medan Area (UMA) Greenmetric Team attended the UI-GreenMetrics workshop at the University of North Sumatra (USU), Thursday (2/20/2020). The workshop was attended by state and private universities in the Western Territory of Indonesia.
On this occasion, UI-GreenMetrics Vice-Chair Junaidi M.A presented a number of agendas in 2020 including national seminars to be held in several regions, and an agenda for international meetings in Iran. Junaidi M.A. also explained how the correct UI-GreenMetrics ranking questionnaire filling technique was used to minimize data input errors. In addition, it was also explained about the experiences of several universities that won the top 10 UI GreenMetrics ranking in 2019 in sustainable environmental management in tertiary institutions.
Previously, the keynote speaker, namely, Prof. Dr. Ir Tommy Ilyas, M.Eng (Member of the University of Indonesia’s UI GreenMetric Expert Team) delivered material entitled “Civil Engineering, Green Campus, and Sustainability”. He explained the relationship between civil engineering with the green campus and its relationship with the Dependent Government Goals. He said, civil engineering plays a role in creating green buildings which are characteristic of buildings that are on the green campus. In addition, the construction of the green building itself is an example of Green Campus Sustainable Design which applies the principles of the use of durable materials, facilities that have environmental protection, and operations that pay attention to sectional and durability.
Chancellor of Medan Area University (UMA) said that the UMA target for 2020 was included in the UI-GreenMetrics Top 10 ranking in Indonesia. To achieve this target, UMA will focus on applying the principles of smart building, utilizing the use of renewable energy, waste treatment, water treatment consumed and environmentally friendly transportation
For information, the University of Medan Area (UMA) is a campus that counts in the UI GreenMetric World Rankings 2019, then. UMA is ranked 17th nationally from 72 tertiary institutions in Indonesia and ranked 303th International from 780 tertiary institutions from 85 countries participating as UI GreenMetric’s green campus.
UI GreenMetric is a rating given by the University of Indonesia (UI) to universities committed to environmental management on campus with various indicators determined, such as the ratio and amount of green land in the campus environment, efficient use of energy and utilization of renewable energy, water treatment, waste management, to the provision of mass transportation on campus. Last year, there were 780 universities from 85 countries that participated.
